Can I do IVF in combination with acupuncture?

Do I need to use herbal medicine with acupuncture to help if I get pregnant?
Combining herbs and acupuncture with dietary and lifestyle changes takes advantage of all the fertility enhancement resources acupuncture and Chinese medicine have to offer. We highly recommend using a combination of these therapies.
If I am combining conventional reproductive therapies with acupuncture and Chinese medicine, should I wait until my conventional reproductive therapy begins before starting acupuncture?
No. Utilizing Chinese medicine before starting conventional reproductive hormone therapy can improve the chances of achieving a pregnancy. Using Chinese herbal therapies requires our licensed acupuncturists to carefully consider the individual and all treatments he/she is receiving, whether pharmaceutical, Western interventions, or other complementary care, in order to properly formulate a plan for treating infertility for the patient and his or her family.

What is menopause, and how can acupuncture and Chinese medicine help?
Acupuncture and Chinese medicine have been used for centuries to treat the symptoms associated with menopause, including hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, mood swings, irregular or excessive uterine bleeding, poor memory, weight gain, and migraine headaches. From a Chinese medical perspective, as estrogen levels decrease, our bodies naturally direct yin energy back to the kidney in an attempt to preserve vitality. This can mean that we may move into a temporary imbalance of yin and yang energies as our bodies adjust and compensate. Acupuncture and herb supplements can redirect yin and yang in order to alleviate symptoms associated with this transition.
How many treatments will it take?
Menopause is a complex process that occurs differently for each woman. Some suffer with strong symptoms and others barely notice the change as they transition through. A typical course of treatment is 6 – 10 weekly visits with a gradual reduction in frequency of treatments as symptoms improve. A treatment plan will be discussed and developed as part of your first visit. Diet and lifestyle will also impact your treatment and your practitioner will talk with you about these as well.
Will herbal medicine be useful?
Yes. Because menopause is associated with a temporary and relative deficiency of yin and yang in the body, it is helpful to treat the conditions with acupuncture and herbs.
What type of herbs may be useful?
Traditionally, herbs are prepared as teas. However, there are also many pill formulas available. You may discuss the best options for you with your practitioner.
Over a third of Dr. Xu’s patients are dealing with infertility or have had issues with it in the past, and although we cannot guarantee fertility, we can give you a better chance of giving birth.
After being told by my Obgyn that my placenta hadn’t moved at all from 20 weeks until 32 weeks, they wanted to schedule me for a c-section. They said there just wasn’t enough time for my placenta to move… After two acupuncture treatments (7days apart), the next ultrasound showed that the placenta had COMPLETELY moved to behind the baby… The doctors were baffled. Lindsay H.I met Master Shuyun Xu in June 2013. I went with my husband out of curiosity. We went and had a great experience. I was able to relax and sleep in the afternoon for two hours. Because of the immediate results we decided to go back about another problem we had.
After four years of trying to get pregnant and my fertility doctor recommending that I start considering in vitro fertilization, I wanted to try another way. My fertility also doctor recommended I try acupuncture, he said it helps and he has seen great results the past. I was diagnosed with unexplained infertility and I was losing hope to have a baby. So I returned to doctor Xu and explained our situation. She consulted us and she said she would help us but we have to follow her advice, come to the acupuncture sessions and take the tea and the pills. She also said to hold on to the in vitro fertilization, because she will help us within a month or so to get pregnant. No other doctor made a similar statement before and I was little bit hesitant.
She not only administered acupuncture treatments, and acupressure massages , but also suggested foods to eat and avoid as well as herbs/teas to consume. Within 2 months I was pregnant with triplets. I did combined the acupuncture sessions with fertility medications but this time it worked after so many years of no results. Also I went to visit her two months into the pregnancy and she took my pulse and advised me to stay in bed until I was at least 3-4 month pregnant because she saw I was not looking good. I was a little bit upset because I was feeling good and I had no problems. Next day at work I started bleeding and went to see my doctor and he also advised bed rest. I stayed in bed for two months, lost one of the babies, but my other two girls are developing great. Dr Xu is amazingly talented, a lot of knowledge, she has a great heart and never tries to recommend unnecessary services. She even came to my house (i live close by) on a Saturday night, no charge to help me out while I was in bed rest. So I am forever grateful to her because she helped us out so much. I also recommended her to three of my friends and they had a great experience and results. Master Xu is wonderful, caring and compassionate and I highly recommend her.
