Fire cupping

Fire cupping therapy is a treatment that uses glass jars in which the air inside is heated, creating a vacuum, and then applied to the skin.

The skin and superficial layer of muscle are drawn into the mouth of the jar, which opens the pores, and promotes the flow of blood and qi.

Oils may be applied to the skin prior to application of the jars to facilitate their movement in a technique known as “gliding cupping”.

In gliding cupping the jars are moved around the fleshy areas of the body for a massaging effect. The jars are then left in strategic areas for 5 to 15 minutes. To remove the jars, the skin next to the mouth of the jar is depressed, allowing air back into the jar.

Fire cupping therapy should be avoided is the skin is inflamed, in cases of high fever, cramping or convulsions, or in conditions of easy bleeding. It should also be avoided in the abdomen or lower back during pregnancy.

Cupping can be used to treat:

  • Respiratory Diseases; such as chronic bronchitis or asthma
  • Digestive Diseases; such as dysentery, early morning diarrhea, acute and chronic gastritis
  • Pain Management; such as headaches, pain in the shoulder and loins, toothaches, and soft tissue injuries.
  • Gynecological Disorders; such as infertility, irregular menstruation, leukorrhea, and uterine cramping.
  • Also the common cold, insomnia, and facial paralysis

REVIEWS:

I’ve been diagnosed with Bells Palsy (facial nerve paralysis on left side of face). It’s my second occurrence and the medical doctors warned that it may be a very slow recovery (at least 6 months to a year and in some cases could be permanent) and that there is no medication for it other than the steroids and viral medicine for the first week. I then decided to try Acupuncture and Physical Therapy. After going to acupuncture doctors in Las Vegas, Ann Arbor and a private doctor along with countless visits to two Physical Therapists, without much improvement the first 3 months, I then tried Dr. Xu’s Troy Acupuncture Center. The very first visit was very intense, an hour of needles placed in strategic places with electrical stimulation on the face followed by an hour massage that was very intense but relaxing of the face, neck and shoulder muscles, trying to invigorate the muscle and nerves. I then had a session of cupping where they apply small glass suction cups on strategic places on the face to help draw fresh blood to the area. I could see that Dr. Xu was totally committed to trying everything she could do get me better quicker. After each session I could feel a difference in my facial muscles. After about a dozen sessions, I now have about 75% recovery and it’s been only about 3 months with Dr. Xu. I often wonder what if I had gone to Dr. Xu from the very beginning. Also while Dr. Xu was treating me for Bells Palsy she was also working on getting my entire body well. I would highly recommend Dr. Xu’s services and her staff was very friendly.

I came to troy acupuncture center for loosing weight. I was 162 pounds and everybody told me I seriously needed to get skinnier. I tried acupuncture and there was great results. The first session I lost 4 pounds, but gradually I lost more and more until I was 137 pounds! Also, their fire moving cupping was really relaxing and I came back for doing it. If you haven’t tried cupping, you really should. Now I look fabulous, and I would totally recommend troy acupuncture center for loosing weight(and relaxing)

I have been having migraines and neck pain for almost 4 years now and to make things worse the Boutlinum Toxin injections that supposed to help them went terribly wrong and I developed botulism posioning.I went from cleveland clinic to mayo clinic looking for some relief from this torture with no success and the just kept telling me that that’s nothing they could do but I had to wait it out and hope that t doesn’t go for years on end.Since i was not getting help from medical community and the severity of my symptoms was still going strong I decided to try alternative medicine to check if it would calm my muscles and nervous system down.and help my with muscle weakness and breathing problems.
I meet with the doc Xu in mid august and explained to her how much i am suffering and how long this thing has been going. She understood and explained to me what my muscles and nerves are going thru due to the paralyzing effect of the toxin and in top of some diet changes she recomended that I try fire cupping and acupuncture later when my muscles would gain some strength.
Fast forward 6 months later thanks to her I am doing better ,my muscles are getting their tone back,I am able to do more activities and i was finally able to sleep a good 8 hours.I been doing cupping every week and acupuncture when I have some small relapse and that I believe and the knowledge of the doctor has made my pain much more bearable and has calmed my anxiety a lot.
I truly recommend her to anyone that is looking for some relief cause she is very good at what she does and extremely knowledgeable at nerve and muscle pain causes and treatments.

Three weeks prior to me coming to Troy Acupuncture, I was resigned to life with out exercise and golf. Bad legs from poor circulation and to much surgery. My friend John Holliday suggested many time to dry Troy Accupiuncture, and three Tuesdays ago I did. Wonderful results. Better range of motion in both knees. Exercising, no golf yet,
only up 3 times a night to the bath room. Appetite down., losing weight. the combination of Accupuncture, Massage & Cupping is wonderful. I have had acupuncture since 1988, and she it the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I came to the Acupuncture Institute of Michigan hoping it would help my neck problems and sleep issues. I was a little nervous about it at first but doctor made me feel comfortable. I did make another appointment a month later and got acupuncture done and the cupping. The cupping is a different experience and would do it again. After that appointment my neck felt a lot better!! Will be going back.
