Acupuncture
Acupuncture is the ancient Chinese practice of inserting needles in specific points on the body to manipulate the flow of energy or Qi.
Acupuncturists believe that illness occurs when somethings blocks or unbalances your chi. Acupuncture is a way to unblock or influence chi and helps it flow back into balance. Sometimes heat, pressure, or mild electrical current is used along with needles. The needles used are fine and flexible, causing little or no sensation.
Electroacupuncture and traditional acupuncture are quite similar. Both use the same strategic points on the body. After the traditional acupuncture needles are inserted a device is connected to specific needles using small clips. The device sends a slight electric pulse into the area being treated. The frequency and intensity can be adjusted depending on the condition being treated. Multiple spots may be stimulated during a treatment. The treatment lasts around 30 minutes. A similar technique call transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), uses pads taped to the surface of the skin rather then the use of needles. TENS can be useful in situations where the patient is afraid of needles or conditions that prevent needling. Electroacupuncture should not be used in cases where there is history of seizures, epilepsy, heart disease, stroke, or patients with pace makers. The head, throat, and directly over the heart should not be used for connection points for the electric pulse. Electroacupuncture stimulates the flow of qi, when it becomes accumulated as in cases of chronic pain.

I received a facial acupuncture and a reflexology foot massage. Both were extremely relaxing and felt great!

I’ve been diagnosed with Bells Palsy (facial nerve paralysis on left side of face). It’s my second occurrence and the medical doctors warned that it may be a very slow recovery (at least 6 months to a year and in some cases could be permanent) and that there is no medication for it other than the steroids and viral medicine for the first week. I then decided to try Acupuncture and Physical Therapy. After going to acupuncture doctors in Las Vegas, Ann Arbor and a private doctor along with countless visits to two Physical Therapists, without much improvement the first 3 months, I then tried Dr. Xu’s Troy Acupuncture Center. The very first visit was very intense, an hour of needles placed in strategic places with electrical stimulation on the face followed by an hour massage that was very intense but relaxing of the face, neck and shoulder muscles, trying to invigorate the muscle and nerves. I then had a session of cupping where they apply small glass suction cups on strategic places on the face to help draw fresh blood to the area. I could see that Dr. Xu was totally committed to trying everything she could do get me better quicker. After each session I could feel a difference in my facial muscles. After about a dozen sessions, I now have about 75% recovery and it’s been only about 3 months with Dr. Xu. I often wonder what if I had gone to Dr. Xu from the very beginning. Also while Dr. Xu was treating me for Bells Palsy she was also working on getting my entire body well. I would highly recommend Dr. Xu’s services and her staff was very friendly.

I came to troy acupuncture center for loosing weight. I was 162 pounds and everybody told me I seriously needed to get skinnier. I tried acupuncture and there was great results. The first session I lost 4 pounds, but gradually I lost more and more until I was 137 pounds! Also, their fire moving cupping was really relaxing and I came back for doing it. If you haven’t tried cupping, you really should. Now I look fabulous, and I would totally recommend troy acupuncture center for loosing weight(and relaxing)

I had the good fortune to see their sign while driving in the area and decided to stop in. Deciding on a massage I mentioned my bad knee for the last 40+ years. I said my doctors have recommended a knee replacement in the next 2 years. Doctor Xu asked if I had decided on this course of action and I replied at this point no but I didn’t think I had much choice. She recommended acupuncture. I cannot be more happy that I decided to go ahead with that treatment. With just one treatment including electro stimulation, I am walking pain free for the first time since I was 16 years old. This includes bending my knee fully and climbing up and down stairs. I work in The Motion Picture Industry and we are on our feet 12 to 16 hours a day. This is a miracle to me allowing me to work as I did when I was young. At 61 years of age I am now realizing that the knee replacement I have been dredding is not in my future. I have been recommending to my fellow crew members with similar knee problems to seek treatment at The Troy Acupuncture Center before agreeing to surgery. I cannot thank Doctor Xu enough for the change this is making to my life.

Amazing service if you want better health. This is the real deal here. Me and my husband have had 4 appointments with Troy Acupunture Center. I can say we are so happy with the service and the benifits of using the services here. Me and my husband have basically utilized all the services offered here. OMG, the massage I had was the best I’ve had and I have been all over the country getting massages when I can. We both have had the Acupunture and the Doctor is so good with this, no pain. As for the rest of the staff, they are so kind and gentle. If I could give 10 stars I would;))))

I have been having migraines and neck pain for almost 4 years now and to make things worse the Boutlinum Toxin injections that supposed to help them went terribly wrong and I developed botulism posioning.I went from cleveland clinic to mayo clinic looking for some relief from this torture with no success and the just kept telling me that that’s nothing they could do but I had to wait it out and hope that t doesn’t go for years on end.Since i was not getting help from medical community and the severity of my symptoms was still going strong I decided to try alternative medicine to check if it would calm my muscles and nervous system down.and help my with muscle weakness and breathing problems.
I meet with the doc Xu in mid august and explained to her how much i am suffering and how long this thing has been going. She understood and explained to me what my muscles and nerves are going thru due to the paralyzing effect of the toxin and in top of some diet changes she recomended that I try fire cupping and acupuncture later when my muscles would gain some strength.
Fast forward 6 months later thanks to her I am doing better ,my muscles are getting their tone back,I am able to do more activities and i was finally able to sleep a good 8 hours.I been doing cupping every week and acupuncture when I have some small relapse and that I believe and the knowledge of the doctor has made my pain much more bearable and has calmed my anxiety a lot.
I truly recommend her to anyone that is looking for some relief cause she is very good at what she does and extremely knowledgeable at nerve and muscle pain causes and treatments.

After being told by my Obgyn that my placenta hadn’t moved at all from 20 weeks until 32 weeks, they wanted to schedule me for a c-section. They said there just wasn’t enough time for my placenta to move… After two acupuncture treatments (7days apart), the next ultrasound showed that the placenta had COMPLETELY moved to behind the baby… The doctors were baffled. My husband and I just couldn’t be more thankful!!! The office is a little unconventional, but Dr Shuyun Xu is AMAZING at what she does, and I’m so grateful for her help!!!

This was the first time I ever had acupuncture so I was apprehensive as well as skeptical. As I was placed in a room I felt the cleanliness of the facility which is very important to me. The room was comfortable, clean and nicely decorated. During the session music was playing which helped to relax. The doctor explained what she was doing with the needles and where they were being placed. During the session I was asked more than once if I was okay which was reassuring to a first timer. When I left I truly felt energetic and relaxed. I wasn’t the best candidate for acupuncture as I have had several surgeries including back and neck which can affect the outcome of treatment. Everyone I met was very friendly and willing to answer any questions I had. Jamaica took time to explain the procedure at the time I made the appointment and never made me feel rushed as she answered my many questions. Whether you are new to acupuncture or a repeat visitor I would highly recommend Troy Acupuncture Center for many reasons. I definitely plan on returning to see if I can get some relief from the almost constant pain I have in my back. Thank You for taking the fear out of something I knew nothing about.

I’m in my mid fifties. I have carried an extra twenty five pounds around and do not diet or exercise with much regularity. Dr Xu informed me she could be of help. I was given an acupuncture session after which I was weighed. Then “seeds” were placed in my ear, I was given “slimming tea” and instructed on what to eat, and how much weight was safe to lose each month. I came twice a month, ate sensibly, drank the tea in morning and at lunch.
Immediately my appetite decreased and energy levels soared! I lost twenty five pounds in about ten weeks. Thank you Dr Xu! I feel better, look better and didn’t have to do anything but come in for treatment and eat better food; less breads, noodles, crackers and such.
I have had other treatments there, all with good results. I firmly believe this is the best option
For all humans who are suffering, pharmaceuticals mask pain and block healing. This uses
Your body’s own ability to heal itself by careful redirection of your own energy. It is worth it!

Had a very relaxing and comfortable first acupuncture experience. I recommend this place not only for acupuncture, but massage also. I had a short massage after my acupuncture service and it was by far one of the best massages I’ve ever had. I forgot the gentleman’s name, but he was awesome and I felt go relaxed afterward. This place was very professional and courteous. The needles don’t hurt. I can’t wait to return for a longer massage!

Dr. Xu is very experienced with acupuncture and trained in China where this traditional Chinese medicine practice originated from which is why I go to her. I went back in 2011 when I was pregnant and had severe migraines and did not want to take medication. After 3 sessions, I was migraine free for two years. Now that they are bothersome again, I have been using essential oils, which help short term but I wanted longer-term relief. I returned for this reason and also for fatigue and sinus issues. My sinuses and headache cleared up right away during the session! I also received some herbal supplements for my sinus issues which I’m excited to try. The office is a very professional and calming environment. I will go back for another session or two, and see if it helps with the problem on a long-term basis again.

I visited Troy Acupuncture center recently and very much enjoyed my visit. I came here to try acupuncture for the first time for relief of my fibromyalgia. After one time I definitely noticed a difference it helps relieve tightness. I also had a massage after which feels great right after the acupuncture. The Doctor recommended for me to try cupping so I will be back to try that for the the first time!

I have experienced back pain for over 6 years now. The pain was so bad that at times that it was hard to maneuver my body to even stand up straight. Walking was uncomfortable and kinda embarrassing. My neck was in so much pain and my neck was so tense. It had a knot that was so tight and was hard as rock in the area between my shoulders and neck. I had to do something because the pain was unbearable. I even work for one of the largest neurological and pain doctors in Michigan and I have yet to see anyone experience the results and relief in which Master Xu provides. Her work is astonishing. The day I set up an appointment for just acupuncture but when I experienced so much relief from that services I was excited to see what else she had in store. I also did a session of cupping and I must say this combo together has not just released my pain but also made me feel amazing, improved posture, improved awareness, I feel amazing, I feel so motivated, I feel so energized, I feel unstoppable, I feel I have no limits, my chi is popping!! I’m loving this feeling. I’ll never be without her!! I love her

Dr Xu has been extremely patient and worked very hard to help me. She is knowledgeable and committed. Some have mentioned about a language barrier, yes she is from China, but I wanted someone that was well trained on the ancient art of acupuncture in a country where it has been practiced for over 2000 years. I am very pleased!

Three weeks prior to me coming to Troy Acupuncture, I was resigned to life with out exercise and golf. Bad legs from poor circulation and to much surgery. My friend John Holliday suggested many time to dry Troy Accupiuncture, and three Tuesdays ago I did. Wonderful results. Better range of motion in both knees. Exercising, no golf yet,
only up 3 times a night to the bath room. Appetite down., losing weight. the combination of Accupuncture, Massage & Cupping is wonderful. I have had acupuncture since 1988, and she it the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I went here as a last resort for migraine headaches and IBS. I can’t believe I waited so long. The results have been incredible. I was a little leery at all the additional therapies, but when I thought about it, I never questioned my primary care physician when he gave me prescriptions or shots, so why would I question any of the therapies recommended here? I committed to following their therapy and have been very happy with the results. Headaches are all but a thing of the past and I can take my Wife out to dinner without fear of racing to the bathroom. Is it different…..yes. Does it work…..YES.

Dr. Xu is knowledgeable, caring and professional. For acupuncture, it’s best to go to someone Chinese and trained in China where the the medical training is far more extensive. The first thing she did for me was stop a headache instantly. I’ve been seeing her for cancer treatment side effects and she’s been extremely helpful.. I discovered that acupuncture can prevent the formation of internal scar tissue following surgery! My rigid skin and surgical scars softened right up. But good for so many other things too. Various packages are offered to help economize on cost for ongoing treatments..

I came to the Acupuncture Institute of Michigan hoping it would help my neck problems and sleep issues. I was a little nervous about it at first but doctor made me feel comfortable. I did make another appointment a month later and got acupuncture done and the cupping. The cupping is a different experience and would do it again. After that appointment my neck felt a lot better!! Will be going back.
